Neighbourhood Watch

Neighbourhood Watch is the largest voluntary movement within the United Kingdom with an estimated 10 million people involved. Neighbourhood Watch is recognised nationally as one of the most effective voluntary organisations and the best example of police and communities working in partnership to reduce crime and the fear of crime, build safer communities and improve the quality of life.

Neighbourhood Watch is a method of developing close liaison between neighbours, the local police and the local authority. The aim is to help people protect themselves and their properties, to reduce the fear of crime and to improve the local environment.

Individual schemes all have different characteristics, depending on the area in which they are situated and their objectives.
Each scheme is a community initiative, which is supported by the police but not run by them. Success depends on what the members make of the scheme, Neighbourhood Watch gives people the chance to get to know and help each other better.

Barker Street

This is a web site for all local homewatch groups.
We hope that it will gradually amass a really useful collection of contact names and numbers.
This can only be achieved by you giving the web-master the information.
Please email to davidcdickinson@hotmail.com
We shall also publish a homewatch newsletter from the central co-ordinator, Hayley Goodwin, and any other interesting snippets from other homewatch groups either local or in other parts of the country.
The news items are posted when available. The most recent is at the top of the news page (we hope!)
